program notes

Psalm 142: Threnody was commissioned by contralto, Mira Frohnmayer, and organist, Paul Olson, to be performed on 1985 recitals commemorating the birth of J.S. Bach. The piece makes use of various "Germanic" devices including the B-A-C-H motif, the "Viennese-fourth" sonority (Db, G, C for example) and a 12-tone passacaglia set to the words, "When my spirit languishes within me."

press/reviews

Psalm 142: Threnody should become part of the consistently performed recital repertory.
